An upscale Mexican restaurant. The chips are thick and almost as good as El Matador's. The salsa was pretty watery and not to good.

Food was OK. Margarita OK. They offer a monster margarita. I did not try it!

I would go back. It is 3 minutes from my townhouse in Elgin.

Sometimes you are greeted and treated well in an economy that warrants such treatment. Carmina's is your typical Mexican restaurant with the addition of a full banquet facility. We embarked on our journey the 4th day of May (Cuatro de Mayo). Service: greeted by our servers (one in training) Tatiana and Soriya. I know what you are thinking the proverbial stumbling and bumbling. Both ladies were pleasant and genuinely attentive. Food: Carmina's Combination - Enchilada, Tamale, and general sides of rice, beans, lettuce guacamole, and sour cream. Nothing great about the tamale. Don is still searching for the one great tamale. Bistec Chimichanga general sides. This was very good and all ingredients were fresh. Chips and Pico de gallo. We asked for some melted cheese (chihuahua) and jalapenos which came out very nice. Margaritas frozen and perfect. We could have used a shot or two more Tequila in our 64 oz. pitcher.

Overall review: Food - Fair to average fresh!!

Service - A Plus

Located in beautiful Shelter Cove, the restaurant offers itself as more than a "Mexican Cafe." It is one of the best Mexican restaurants in town, offering more sophisticated dishes than its competitors. The restaurant is blessed by being able to have an outside bar, some of the best Margaritas in town, and, in season, entertainment. Prices are very reasonable. This is one of our favorite places on the Island along with the Salty Dog. It is especially enjoyable when we are with our friends Sherri & Lee Coursey.
